Red Lake Woman Sentenced For Fatal Stabbing

RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) — A northwestern Minnesota woman has been sentenced to 6 ½ years in federal prison for fatally stabbing a man on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

A federal judge announced the sentence Wednesday for 26-year-old Alison Brown, a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the July 2013 death of Byron Lussier Sr., who was also a member of the Red Lake Band.

Authorities say Brown stabbed Lussier in his kitchen with two kitchen knives and a barbecue grill fork. Their relationship is unclear.

Brown was indicted in August 2013 after an investigation by the FBI and Red Lake police.
