N. Dakota Runner Carries Injured Opponent On Her Back

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some true sportsmanship happened last weekend at a cross country meet in northern Minnesota.

Teams were racing at the Ponderosa Golf Course near Glyndon when Danielle Lenoue, a runner from Fargo, injured her knee while out on the course.

She went down not far from the finish line when Devils Lake senior Melanie Bailey came running.

Bailey, who is half Lenoue's size, picked her up and carried her across the finish line on her back.

"Honestly, I loved the way I ended it. It was a really good way to end my cross-country season," Bailey said.

Lenoue was touched by Bailey's gesture.

"So nice, I mean like she didn't have to do that. She obviously has a good personality and was raised like that, obviously," Lenoue said. "I mean, how many people kept running past me but she decided she was going to stop."

The two runners reached out to each other on Facebook after the race and have become friends.
