Delivery Driver Retreats To Car After Pizza Argument Turns Violent

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A hungry but frugal Inver Grove Heights man hit his pizza delivery driver in the head and caused more than $1,000 in damage to the driver's car, police said.

The man tried to pay $15 for $41 worth of pizza on July 5, but became irate when the driver asked for more money and threatened to call police, according to the Dakota County criminal complaint.

Verneal Rashaun Baxter, 20, is charged with one county of fifth-degree assault and one count of felony property damage.

When the pizza man pulled out his cell phone to call 911, Baxter knocked the phone out of his hand.

The driver then "abandoned the pizzas," according to the complaint, and turned toward his car.

Baxter struck the driver in the back of the head, and the driver locked himself in his car, police said.

Baxter then started kicking and hitting the car.

The delivery driver told police that the cost of repair was $1,156.34.

Baxter faces up to 5 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
