Trail Rules Change In East-Central Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Before venturing into the woods of east-central Minnesota this fall, hunters and others are being encouraged to review changes to trail rules in Pine County.

The Department of Natural Resources says the affected areas include the Nemadji, General Andrews, Chengwatana and St. Croix state forests.

Changes took effect Jan. 1 on a number of trails. Some were designated or undesignated as off-highway vehicle trails. New hunter walking trails were also established.

The DNR says one designation change not well understood is the "area with limitations" designation. It's intended to protect sensitive areas from overuse or to discourage off-trail travel. Hunters and trappers traveling by OHV are not allowed to go off trail in these areas or use undesignated trails even to retrieve game.
