Halloween Is About More Than Candy For Richfield Man
RICHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's Halloween, which means it's finally time for you and the kids to go trick-or-treating. Our WCCO This Morning reporter, Ali Lucia, found one Haunted House in Richfield that's giving away treats with a twist.
Ryan Ridgley and his wife, Kandace, have always been big fans of Halloween. For five years now, they have decorated their home. Their front yard, which the Ridgley's like to call the "Nightmare on Fourth Avenue," is filled with scary spiders, ghosts, goblins, skeletons, witches, plenty of pumpkins and even a fog machine. The elaborate setup starts for Ryan after Labor Day and takes him about 100 hours.
For the second year in a row, Ryan and his wife won't just be passing out candy, but something else. Tied to every piece of candy will be a note with a special request. The note asks all the trick-or-treaters to come back to their Richfield home and donate their Halloween costumes. The Ridgley's will then donate them to a local church for children and families who can't afford to buy costumes of their own.
Last year, the Ridgley's collected and donated 67 costumes. This year the Ryan is hoping for a bigger turnout.
"I have 1,500 pieces of candy ready to go for trick-or-treaters," said Ryan Ridgley.
The Ridgley's plan to have a large bin at the end of their driveway for the week following Halloween and will collect the costumes, clean them and sort them to be donated to a local church.
