Get Movin' Monday: Holiday Bargains Well Before Black Friday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - When you think about deals to be had in November, you might think Black Friday. But great bargains can be found beginning the top of the month.
Deals expert John Ewoldt from the Star Tribune said turkeys are a good deal all month long, but the best bargains are a week before Thanksgiving.
"That is when stores like Cub Foods and Walmart start having loss leaders," Ewoldt said, "when they actually start paying more for the turkey than what they are selling to consumers, and so you'll find things as low as 79 cents a pound."
Ewoldt said a good deal on turkey is anything under a dollar a pound.
Another steal the entire month of November are toys, especially at one Minnesota-based retailer.
"I would focus on Target this year," he said. "Because they're still hurting from last year's data breach, so what they're doing with their Cartwheel program (which is an app) is to have a single toy 50 percent off every day, through the month of November and into December. And then once you get their toy guide in newspapers, you can stack coupons in there, so it's an extra good deal."
And if there is one item that's the best bargain only on Black Friday, it's televisions.
"I'm not talking about that $79 blowout special that's not that great of a TV," said Ewoldt. "This year they're expecting a 42-inch 1080p TV selling for $180, and a 60-inch TV, which is the new normal, will be $420."
There are other great deals in November that can only be found close to home.
MCAD has a sale once a year, and it's always in November. Thousands of pieces of student and alumni art is for sale, and nothing sells for more than $1000.

Also, make sure to head to Shakopee this month, where you can find a collection of warehouse sales.
Most of them take place within a mile of each other on the same weekend.
