Original Famous Dave's Restaurant Destroyed In Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Original Famous Dave's barbecue restaurant, located in Hayward, Wisconsin, was destroyed in a fire early Monday morning.

Owner Dave Anderson said in a Facebook post that he got a call about the fire at about 4:30 a.m. Monday. The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident in Hayward, Wisconsin, at about 4:24 a.m. about the fire at the restaurant. When crews arrived on scene, the restaurant was completely engulfed in flames. Authorities said there was nobody inside the building at the time of the fire.

The restaurant had been there for about 20 years. Anderson said in the post on Facebook that they plan to rebuild and let employees know that they will have a restaurant up and running as soon as possible. He said he will work with his wife, Kathy, and General Manager Dave Von Rueden to find a new location to open.

"Just know we will reopen and start serving great BBQ all over again! Please let everyone know this is only a temporary setback and we will begin anew!" Anderson said on his Facebook post.

What caused the fire is under investigation.
