Snow, Wind Lead To Cancellations At MSP Airport
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The first snowstorm of the season is causing big headaches for travelers and crews Monday at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
MSP Spokesman Pat Hogan says there have been about 175 canceled flights Monday.
Hogan says he doesn't anticipate many more being made because the airlines were aggressive about canceling them ahead of time.
The average delay Monday afternoon is about 30 to 45 minutes.
As part of standard snow procedure, there are only two runways open so crews can focus on clearing them.
Hogan says they're in good shape Monday afternoon because the snow levels haven't been as high as expected.
The biggest problem for planes and crews has been the wind. Blowing snow and low visibility have the biggest impact on flights.
Hogan expects the airport and flights to be back on track Tuesday.
