DNR Closes NE Minnesota's Early Wolf Season

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is closing the early wolf hunting season in the northeastern part of the state.

Wolf hunting in the northeast zone will close for the rest of the 2014 early firearms season at the end of shooting hours on Friday.

The harvest target for the northeast zone during the early season was 37 wolves. Hunters had registered 34 wolves when the DNR started closing the season for that area.

The northwest zone remains open in the 200-series deer permit areas through Nov. 16 and in the 100-series deer permit areas through Nov. 23, or until the target harvest is met for that zone.

The two-day hunt in the east-central zone closed last Sunday.

As of Thursday afternoon, hunters have registered a total of 83 wolves.
