UW-Stout Administrator Killed In Crash Involving Deer, Semi
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Stout was killed Wednesday evening in a crash involving a deer and a semi truck on Interstate 94.
Kay Schnur, 56, was killed near Osseo, Wisconsin just before 7 p.m., according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Schnur, from Merrillan, was traveling eastbound on I-94 when her vehicle struck a deer and stopped in the right lane of traffic.
A semi truck then rear-ended Schnur, pushing her car into a ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her daughter, 25-year-old UW-Stout student Anna Herrick, was her passenger, and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi, 41-year-old Ronald Malchow, was not injured.
UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer released a statement Thursday about the tragic accident.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kay's family and friends at this time of grief," Meyer said. "Kay worked at UW-Stout for about 22 years and was a dedicated, hard-working and innovative administrator, as well as a great friend and valuable colleague. This is a devastating loss for the campus and for everyone who knew her."
The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating.
