Saturday Marks First Top 10 Weather Day Of Winter

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – WCCO is declaring the first top 10 weather day of the winter season Saturday, Nov. 22.

That's right, a top 10 weather day in the winter.

While the winter season hasn't officially started, the winter solstice is on Dec. 21, freezing temperatures and measurable snow have certainly made it feel as though it has.

After an arctic blast hit the Twin Cities and left Minnesotans freezing for 12 days, temperatures are finally beginning to warm.

"In the Twin Cities we just endured 12 consecutive days below freezing. That is the second longest streak on record in the month of November. Tomorrow we warm above 32 degrees…finally. That is something to celebrate, so we are calling tomorrow a Top 10 Weather Day," WCCO meteorologist Chris Shaffer said.

While some may think winter days are best spent at home under the covers, many Minnesotans still love to get outdoors.

"Many viewers love all four of our seasons and take it outside no matter the weather.  So we like to highlight some of the nicer non-summer days," Shaffer said.

For those viewers that enjoy snow-filled activities, send photos of you enjoying the winter wonderland to photos@wcco.com.
