Snow, Cold Hamper Minnesota Harvest Wrap-Up

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Freezing temperatures and snow have hampered Minnesota farmers as they try to finish the fall harvest.

In its final weekly crop report of the season, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says farmers in the state had only two days suitable for fieldwork in the week that ended Sunday.

Farmers tried to finish the harvest and fall tillage, but progress was limited across much of Minnesota. Farmers still aren't sure when they'll be able to harvest their remaining crops.

Ninety-six percent of Minnesota's corn acreage is harvested, up only 1 percentage point from the week before. Minnesota's sunflower acres are 97 percent harvested, up 2 points from the previous week.

Topsoil and subsoil moistures are 80 percent adequate or surplus statewide heading into winter.
