Oliva, Kaat Miss Out On Hall Of Fame Again

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two former Minnesota Twins have been denied entry again to the Hall of Fame.

Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat were among the 10 candidates considered by the 16-member Golden Era committee. Twelve votes were needed for induction, and Oliva was the closest along with Dick Allen with 11 each in results released Monday. Kaat received 10.

Each voter was allowed to choose up to four candidates in a secret ballot. Eight of the committee members were Hall of Fame members. Four were baseball executives. Four were media members.

The Golden Era candidates are those whose primary contributions were between 1947 and 1972.

Oliva played for the Twins from 1962 to 1976. Kaat pitched for them from 1961 to 1973.
