Alert: St. Thomas Student Groped Outside Her Apartment

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials at the University of St. Thomas have issued a safety alert after a student reported being groped over the weekend by a man outside her St. Paul apartment.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon on the 1900 block of Grand Avenue, according to the student, who reported the incident on Monday.

She said that as she was leaving her place, she passed a man who asked about her classes. He then told her it was his birthday and asked for a hug.

The student said she put her hand on his shoulder, and then he wrapped his arms around her waist and grabbed her bottom. The student pushed the suspect away and went then back into her apartment. The suspect walked away from the area.

School officials say the incident was reported to St. Paul police, and they gave a description of the suspect. He is described as being a 40-to-50-year-old black man, standing about 5-feet, 7-inches-tall, with a light-to-medium build. The student said he had slurred speech and was wearing a red plaid weight jacket and a dark knitted cap.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the St. Paul Police Department at 651-291-1111.
