DFL Chair To Run For 3rd Term

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The head of Minnesota's Democratic Party says he's ready for another term.

DFL Chairman Ken Martin will run for a third term, he announced via Twitter Wednesday morning. Party chairs serve two-year terms.

His decision comes on the heels of a largely successful Election Day for Democrats, who maintained the governor's office, a U.S. Senate Seat and two crucial U.S. House Districts. The DFL lost control of the state House.

Martin says those victories are quite remarkable given how well the GOP fared across the country.

A longtime political operative in Minnesota, Martin was elected DFL chairman in 2010 after a bad year for Democrats. Since then, the party has built a substantial fundraising edge over Republicans and won back control of the state Legislature in 2012.
