Man, 25, Charged With Murder In Mpls. Rail Station Stabbing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Minneapolis man is charged with murder in connection to the stabbing death of a 58-year-old man at a light rail transit station in Minneapolis Saturday.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says police were dispatched to the Lake Street–Midtown Station along the Blue Line at about 1:30 p.m. on reports of an assault in progress.

When officers arrived at the station, they found Gerald Wayne Davis unresponsive. He had been stabbed several times in the left side of his body, including his neck, chest, head and shoulder.

Davis was pronounced dead at arrival at Hennepin County Medical Center. The medical examiner said the deepest of his wounds pierced his aorta and left lung.

Surveillance video showed Davis waiting for a train on the upper-level platform. Three men entered the platform, two of whom pointed out Davis to a man later identified as 25-year-old Anthony Cosmos Bowker, who then began to chase the victim.

Bowker got a hold of Davis as his tried to exit the platform and stabbed him several times. Davis then fled down to the lower level, where he collapsed. Bowker and his two companions followed him down the stairs, where Bowker kicked Davis in the head before fleeing the station.

Further investigation of surveillance video showed a verbal encounter 15 minutes before the attack between Davis and Bowker's two companions.

Investigators identified Bowker as the main suspect and arrested him on probable cause Sunday at about midnight. He later admitted to officers that he stabbed Davis, left the light rail station and got rid of the weapon.

Bowker was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder. If convicted, he could face up to 40 years in prison.
