Pillsbury United Communities Gets FBI Award

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Minneapolis-based group that serves more than 54,000 people in diverse communities is being recognized by the FBI for its work.

The FBI announced that Pillsbury United Communities will be this year's recipient of the Director's Community Leadership Award. The award is given annually to individuals and groups for their positive work in communities and crime prevention.

The group's president and chief executive, Chanda Smith Baker, will receive the award at a formal ceremony Monday.

Pillsbury United Communities operates five community centers, a training and development school, and authorizes 13 charter schools. The group works to connect community members with decision makers, and help people become self-sufficient.

The FBI says Pillsbury United Communities is committed to providing services and opportunities to Minneapolis residents.
