Bite Of Minnesota: Local Food Gifts

It seems that people are in one of two camps: early shoppers or last-minute shoppers.

I grew up in a family of last-minute shoppers. My mom would be finishing her shopping list on Christmas Eve, and still be wrapping as we arrived.

As an adult, I have retained some of those last-minute tendencies, but certainly not in the gift-buying department.

As soon as my second Thanksgiving celebration ended, I was online securing gifts for the nieces and nephews, and even got a few gifts for myself.

Now that the majority of my online shopping has completed, it's time to fill in the gaps with some food-related gifts and pick up a few items for upcoming parties.

Here are a few of my favorite food shopping places:

Linden Hills Winter Market
lindenhillsfarmersmarket.com
Hosted at Sunnyside Gardens
3723 West 44th Street
Minneapolis
9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sundays until Dec. 21

Find local honey from Bare Honey, caramels from Comfort Candy, maple syrup from Horner's Corner, salts and vinegars from Clover Valley Farms and much more.

Sunrise Market
sunrisecreativegourmet.com
865 Pierce Butler Route
St. Paul
Tuesday - Friday: 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This new storefront offers all kinds of local products, including Haas Brothers salsa, Sunrise Harvest pasta (including their new gluten-free line), Wee Willies sauces and a variety of locally-made confections, pickled vegetables and jams.

Local D'Lish
localdlish.com
208 N. 1st Street
Minneapolis
Monday - Friday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Find brand-new local products here as owner Ann Yin is well connected to the food community and welcomes goods such as Sweet Science ice cream, Fika Coffee and a variety of skin care products.

Need doggie gifts? Local D'Lish has you covered. Stop by on Saturday for a little holiday market.

Golden Fig
goldenfig.com
790 Grand Avenue
St. Paul
Monday - Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

This shop has so much to offer, including an entire line of Golden Fig seasonings, flavorings and drink mixes which make perfect host/hostess gifts.

Add in B.T. McElrath's chocolates, Minnesalsa and Whole Grain Milling Co.'s tortilla chips and you're ready for a party.

That's my list for local foodie finds. I'd love to hear yours. Where do you get your local food gifts? You can tweet me at @hellogrobe.
