Maya Moore Named USA Basketball Female Athlete Of The Year

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After leading Team USA to a FIBA World title last summer and being named the MVP of the tournament, Lynx guard Maya Moore was named the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Moore started all six games for Team USA in the FIBA World Championships and averaged 15.3 points per game, six rebounds and 3.5 assists in more than 24 minutes per game. Team USA won all six games to take gold and qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Moore had 18 points as Team USA beat Spain in the gold medal game of the FIBA World Championships.

The 2014 FIBA world title was the second straight for Moore, who also got her sixth gold medal overall while playing for USA Basketball. With her on the roster, Team USA has a 56-2 overall record.

Moore was also named the 2014 MVP in the WNBA and won the league scoring title, averaging 23.9 points per game. She helped lead the Lynx to a 25-9 record.
