Good Questions: Flat Tires, Gov. Swearing In, & NFL Fines

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Every Friday, we like to answer some of the emails you've send to us throughout the week. This week, you wanted to know about NFL fines, flat tires why does the Governor have to be sworn in again?

Earlier this week, Gov. Dayton took the oath of office for a second time. So, that had Nancy asking: "Why does he have to be sworn in again?"

According to Hamline law professor David Schultz, the governor's term expires after four years, so he must be sworn in again for another four years. There's also a ceremonial reason, that taking the oath is an opportunity to make a new beginning and reaffirm the duties and responsibilities of the office.

Janet from Eden Prairie wants to know: "Where does the NFL player fine money go?"

The NFL says it all goes to charity, including retired player programs, disaster relief and health-related charities.

Tenth-grader Josee from Hastings asked: "Why do tires lose air when it gets cold?"

"Air is a gas and when it gets cold it contracts," Joy Kokaisel, owner of Norm's Tire Sales in Roseville, said. "For every 10 degrees the temperature drops, you lose a pound of air in your tires."

Kokaisel also said they see more corrosion and damage to the wheels during the winter, which can allow air to seep out more quickly. Kokaisel recommended checking tire pressure once a month.
