Police: 2 Dead From CO Poisoning In Lindstrom Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two women were found dead from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in a home north of the Twin Cities Monday afternoon, according to the Lakes Area Police Department.

Authorities were called at about 2:24 p.m. to a residence on the 13100 block of Sylvan Avenue in Lindstrom. They were acting on a welfare check on a person who had not been heard from since last Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found an adult female who appeared to be dead slumped over on a couch. After gaining entry to the house, officers found two adult women dead inside the home.

Authorities said the two women, 53 and 58 years old, both lived at the residence and had not been heard from since last Thursday. A preliminary investigation showed extreme levels of carbon monoxide in the home, and the furnace had stopped working. An officer who initially responded to the residence had to be treated and released at a hospital for carbon monoxide exposure.

Authorities said after further investigation, the exhaust pipe for the furnace was plugged with soot and ice, and was blocked. The names of the victims have not been released.

The case is under investigation by the Lakes Area Police Department and Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
