Reflecting On Minnesota's Miserable Sports Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Let's recap your weekend, shall we?

The Timberwolves lost their 14th and 15th in a row Friday and Saturday night.

The Wild were outscored a combined 7-2 in losses to Nashville and Chicago, and have now lost five in a row and 11 of their last 13.

Gopher men's basketball blew a 9-point lead with less than 8 to play at Michigan and lost their fourth in a row.

Men's hockey was swept in Michigan, too, and has now lost three of four.

But it's worse than one weekend in Minnesota. You know, you live here. Throw in Gopher football, and men's sports teams in this town are a combined 2-18 in 2015 – the Vikings probably only missing from this list because they missed the playoffs.

Even Gopher women's basketball, which had won ten in a row, got in on the losing this weekend.

Yes, it's a miserable time to be a Minnesota sports fan.

And then there's one college team that all it does is win. Gopher women's hockey – the only basketball or hockey team in the whole town to win a game this weekend.

"Winning is always fun," defenseman Lee Stecklein said with a laugh.

So while you commiserate over the state of Minnesota sports, they'll just be over here, unbeaten for 13 in a row, No. 2 in the country and looking for their third national title in the last four years.

"It's always great to win, I think we have a great program here, and it somehow is working out this year," Stecklein said. "We're having a great run, and we're playing some of our best hockey right now."

So yes, another miserable Minnesota sports weekend during another miserable Minnesota winter.

Unless you're a Gopher women's hockey fan, that is.
