Sheriff: Driver Runs Stop Sign, Kills Woman; Alcohol A Possible Factor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office says alcohol may have contributed to a crash that killed a 54-year-old Wisconsin woman.

At 7:26 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in the township of Erin Prairie, Wisconsin.

There, an investigation determined that a 2003 Ford truck – driven by 27-year-old Cody Stephenson of Lonsdale, Minnesota -- was traveling northbound on County Truck Highway T. Stephenson allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at CTH G and collided with a 2000 Cadillac Eldorado, which was driven by Deborah Bugni of Woodville, Wisconsin.

Bugni suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Stephenson was then taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say evidence shows alcohol being a possible contributing factor in the crash on the part of Stephenson.

The crash remains under investigation. It's the county's first traffic fatality of 2015.
