Minn. Skipper Leads IRC 1 Class In Quantum Key West Regatta

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Minneapolis skipper Hap Fauth has steered Bella Mente to two IRC 1 class victories at the Quantum Key West sailing regatta off the Florida Keys.

With Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Terry Hutchinson calling tactics, Fauth increased his lead Tuesday to four points over Shockwave, skippered by George Sakellaris of Framingham, Massachusetts, and five points over Numbers, with Gunter Buerman of Highland Beach, Florida, at the helm.

The 54-boat J/70 class, the largest class of the 115-boat fleet, has Africa, steered by Judd Smith of Marblehead, Massachusetts, at the top of the leaderboard.

Argo, owned by Jason Carroll of New York City, maintained the lead in the Great Cup 32 class. The group features foiling catamarans that mimic America's Cup vessels on a smaller scale.

Racing continues through Friday.
