Tax Season This Year Brings Some Big Changes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The tax filing season officially opens on Tuesday, and this year there are a number of potentially big changes of which citizens need to be aware.

For the first time under the Affordable Care Act, most Americans will have to certify that they had health insurance coverage in 2014 to avoid a tax penalty.

Also, if you have specific questions to ask government representatives, be prepared to wait longer. Recent budget cuts means there are fewer people working the IRS help lines this tax season.

Even though the filing window opens on Tuesday, most people begin to file in February. Employers have until the end of January month to send out W-2 forms.

The very last day to file is April 15.
