Dayton Budget Funds Early Learning, Broadband, Tax Relief

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is holding up his focus on education in his new budget as an investment in Minnesota's future.

Schools and early learning programs make out well in the Dayton plan announced Tuesday. It's a proposed $42 billion budget for the next two years, which the Legislature will debate for months.

Dayton says he's promoting new pre-kindergarten learning programs to prepare kids for success. He's also suggesting a slight boost in the per-pupil school aid formula.

Dayton's budget also plan has extra funding for broadband development, railroad safety and college financial aid.
