Mpls. City Hall Plaque Will Commemorate First Same-Sex Marriages

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A new plaque at Minneapolis City Hall commemorates the state's first legal same-sex marriages performed there in 2013.

Sixty-seven couples were married August 1st of that year after Minnesota became the 12th state in the nation to recognize same-sex unions.

Mayor Betsy Hodges will officially unveil the new plaque Thursday evening at a ceremony in the City Hall rotunda. She will be joined by the chief authors of the bill that legalized gay marriage in Minnesota, state Sen. Scott Dibble and Rep. Karen Clark. Couples who were married that night at City Hall are also expected to attend.
