Mpls. Woman Gets 15 Years In Prison For Uptown Hit-&-Run
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 38-year-old Minneapolis woman will spend 15 years behind bars for running down a man -- who remains in a coma -- outside an Uptown bar in August, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
On Friday morning, after listening to victim impact statements, the Hennepin County judge handed down the sentence to Angela Jackson, who pleaded guilty last month to attempted first-degree murder.
On Aug. 15, 2014, Jackson struck 39-year-old Tarrince Emmanuel Winbush at the intersection of Lyndale Avenue and 26th Street South, not far from Bulldog Restaurant.
When Jackson pleaded guilty on Jan. 6, 2015, she admitted that she was angry with the man Winbush was walking with because that man had hit her twice while they were inside Bulldog arguing about the bill, which surveillance video confirmed.
Jackson said she was so angry with the man that she drove directly at him at close to 40 mph intending to "take him out." She, however, struck Winbush instead.
Jackson then hid the car in a garage and removed the license plates. She was arrested nine days later.
Jackson told the judge that Winbush was never her enemy and repeatedly said she was sorry.
Winbush remains in a coma six months after the crime and even Jackson's own attorney said he is not expected to live. He has a 3-year-old son.
