St. Paul Academy Hockey Coach Resigns Days Before Playoffs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A popular Twin Cities high school hockey coach has resigned just days before his team heads to the playoffs.

Coach Bill Owens submitted his resignation to St. Paul Academy on Thursday. He was the head coach of the boys varsity hockey team.

A letter sent home to parents said Owens was leaving for personal reasons and not due to his work with students.

The team just finished a successful 21 - 4 seasons.

Assistant coach Matt Funk will take over coaching through the playoffs.
