Gophers Shut Out Michigan For Weekend Sweep

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota men's hockey team shut out Michigan 2-0 Saturday night to claim a weekend sweep of the Wolverines at Mariucci Arena.

The Gophers also beat Michigan 6-2 Friday and with the sweep, they pulled into first place in the Big Ten Conference standings. Adam Wilcox made 26 saves in net to earn the shutout, which included a barrage of shots late in the third period. He has 11 career shutouts, which is second in the history of the program.

Seth Ambroz scored early in the first period, four minutes into the game, to give Minnesota the early 1-0 lead.

After netting a hat trick Friday night, Kyle Rau scored an empty-net goal with 21 seconds left in regulation to seal the win. The Gophers out-shot Michigan 33-26 in the win.

Minnesota travels to Penn State for a two-game series next weekend.
