Como Zoo Announces Baby Orangutan's New Name

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul's Como Zoo just announced that the new baby orangutan will be given the name Kemala.

The public was asked to help pick a name for the newborn primate, which was born at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center on Jan. 7.

Kemala means "magic stone." The other two contenders were Aanjay, meaning "unconquerable," and Cinta, meaning "love."

Those who made a donation to the zoo were allowed to cast their vote. The contest raised nearly $2,000.
