Brooklyn Center Man Convicted In Gang-Related Shooting Outside Target Field

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A jury found a Brooklyn Center man guilty of two counts of attempted murder for a gang-related shooting incident outside Target Field last April.

James Davis, 28, was convicted of shooting Kibbie Walker, who was hit in the chest and abdomen, and Cortez Blakemore, who officials say sustained a serious spinal cord injury, after they left their cleaning job at the baseball park on April 12 of last year.

Police also charged Walker with assault for a separate shooting incident outside Hennepin County Medical Center later that month.

"This was a difficult case because [Walker] was not cooperative and did not want to say who shot him," Hennepin County Attorney Mark Freeman said in a statement. "But the jury did an excellent job of listening to all the evidence we put forth. We are determined to stop these gang related shootings."

Officials say Davis is a known member of the One Nines gang, while Walker and Blakemore are members of the Taliban gang.

Both Davis and Walker will be sentenced next month.
