Man Who Kidnapped Wife, Robbed Bank, Fled To Mexico Gets 25 Years
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Virginia, Minnesota, man who kidnapped his wife, robbed a Kansas bank and fled to Mexico was sentenced Friday to 25 years in federal prison.
Timothy Caskey, 43, assaulted and kidnapped his wife in July 2011 while she was walking with her 9-year-old son. He pleaded guilty to attacking his wife repeatedly with the handle of a screwdriver.
"He repeatedly threatened her and physically and sexually assaulted her," Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle E. Jones said in a statement. "The defendant funded his violent escapade by robbing a bank in Kansas and stealing a truck in Texas."
Caskey robbed the Great Southern Bank in Ottawa, Kansas, on July 15, 2011. During the robbery he used shoelaces to tie up his wife, and left her in the vehicle. Later he stole a pickup truck from a used car dealership in New Braunfels, Texas.
After crossing into Mexico, he continued to physically and sexually assault his wife, threatening to kill her if she tried to escape, and he also withheld food and water from her.
Caskey was arrested on Aug. 8, 2011, in Mexico.
He was convicted of one count of kidnapping and one count of bank robbery.
