Wild Acquire Bergenheim From Panthers For 3rd-Round Pick

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild acquired Florida Panthers forward Sean Bergenheim on Tuesday in exchange for a 2016 third-round draft choice.

Bergenheim has eight goals and 10 assists in 39 games this season. Minnesota will be the fourth team the Finland native has skated for in nine NHL seasons.

"There's not a lot of fancy play in his game, but he's a guy that's had a lot of success in the playoffs before and played pretty well for Tampa and Florida over the last few years," Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher said.

Bergenheim adds depth to a Wild team that has gone 11-1-1 since the All-Star break and currently holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

An unrestricted free agent after this season, Bergenheim will be expected to replace some of the production missing with forwards Jason Zucker, Ryan Carter and Matt Cooke injured.

"The sooner the better, obviously," Fletcher said. "No need to wait until (Monday's) trade deadline."

The Wild also acquired a 2016 seventh-round pick from Florida in the deal.
