FCC Approves 'Net Neutrality' Proposal
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Some Internet Service Providers are calling new FCC regulations a dangerous government overreach.
The new rules are aimed at enforcing net neutrality.
That's the idea that service providers should not be allowed to intentionally block or slow web traffic, or create paid fast lanes on the internet.
FCC's chairman said neither the government nor corporate interests should control free and open Internet access.
Internet service providers are expected to take the issue to court.
Minnesota Sen. Al Franken has been a strong proponent of net neutrality.
"It's just saying that all content on the Internet will be treated the same," Franken told a crowd at Magnet 360 in St. Louis Park earlier this month.
