Accomplish MN: 'Make A Wish' Recipient Hits The Ice With Hockey Heroes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Earlier this week, WCCO introduced you to Gabe, a competitive 12-year-old from Vadnais Heights. He couldn't play sports while doctors treated him for lymphoma but now, he's cancer free.

On Wednesday, Gabe teamed up with Matt Brickman in our Race 4 Wishes as we collected airline miles for Make-A-Wish Minnesota. Clues led them to Target Field, Mariucci Arena, Mall of America and Winter Park.

Later, Gabe had some special moments with his hockey heroes.

For as many times as he's been to Mariucci Arena, Gabe has never had an entrance like this.

Gabe is the ultimate Gopher fan and of all the day's challenges, it was more of dream come true.

In the locker room, Gabe soaked it in, and suited up. His heroes would be his teammates

Just one week before this, Gabe got on the ice for the first time since his treatment began, but you'd never be able to tell.

Gabe is good – he hit the winning shot with an assist from Goldy.

Those few minutes on the ice were so special, there's almost no words to describe it.

"It's an honor to be able to play with you guys, and I really like watching your games, so this was fun," he told the team.

With a team photo and a job well done from Coach Lucia, Gabe thought his time at the rink was over. But as luck would have it, the Wild were practing next door at Ridder Arena, and the pros wanted a pic with this pee wee player, sending him off the ice with a celebratory stick tap.

How You Can Help

WCCO is trying to raise 20 million airline miles to grant wishes of kids around the state for Make-A-Wish Minnesota,

Like Gabe's wish, many of those granted by Make-A-Wish involve air travel. If you'd like to help make wishes come true, you can donate airline miles here.
