Leopold Daughter Glad To Have Dad Back In Minn. With Wild

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Jordyn Leopold, the 10-year-old daughter of the Wild's newest defenseman Jordan Leopold, lead the crowd in the "let's play hockey," cheer Sunday night.

It was her heartwarming letter that went viral on social media this past week, asking the Wild to trade for her dad so he could come home to Minnesota.

The story's been all over the news lately, but there's nothing like hearing Jordyn tell it herself.

"I thought maybe I could have a chance at getting my daddy home," she explained.

Like any daughter who's ever missed her dad, she just wanted him home.

"It was another way for me to write my feelings down on paper," she said. "It kind of helped me a little more."

Back in January, young Jordyn wrote the letter that has now become famous worldwide. Addressed to the Wild coaches, she wrote "my dad is very lonely without his family," asked them to make a trade with Columbus to bring him home. The Wild never saw the letter, but they did make the trade.

And then, everyone saw it.

"That letter went a long way," former Gopher Jordan Leopold told reporters. "I just saw some people that were in New Zealand, Israel, Russia -- you name it, it's been all over. So I think she impacted a lot of people and touched a lot of hearts, definitely dad's."

"Yeah I never thought it would get that popular," his daughter chimed in.

As much fun as Monday was when her mom broke the news to her that dad was coming home, she says she was shocked.

"I didn't think that it would happen so quick," Jordyn said.

She says the best part has been the week since.

"I'm really happy and excited that he's home," Jordyn said. "I feel relieved and really happy."

As for the letter, it's still at the house. Jordyn says she's gonna keep it somewhere safe and special.

"I'll put it in a frame," she said.

Her dad says she probably got the idea in school, from a persuasive writing assignment. Although Jordyn says she didn't get an A, they're now using her paper as an example for other students.
