NTSB: Canopy Problem Caused Deadly Sauk Rapids Plane Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities said a plane that crashed into a house in Sauk Rapids this past summer, killing two people aboard, likely had a problem with its canopy.

The National Transportation Safety Board investigated the crash, which happened last June, and found the plane's canopy came open during the flight. Authorities said that caused the pilot to lose control.

The plane ended up crashing in to a home on the 700 block of Garden Place, killing the 60-year-old pilot Scott Olson and his passenger, 16-year-old Alexander Voight. Voight was an exchange student from Germany who had gone up in the plane to get some aerial photos.
