World Record Attempt Ice Sculpture Comes Down

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An impressive ice sculpture in along Lake Superior in Superior, Wisconsin had to come down as spring-like temperatures persisted in Minnesota.

The sculpture was built by Minnesota artist Roger Hanson, who was hoping to break a world record for the tallest ice sculpture at 53 feet high.

His work fell a few feet short before temperatures started to warm up.

For safety reasons they had to knock the sculpture down, but it didn't happen easily. Steel cables, a hot wire and even a fire truck were brought in to try to knock it down.

The sculpture finally toppled on Thursday.

Hanson said he will try to beat the world record again next year.
