Brookly Park Hosts Forum To Increase Communication Between Police, Residents

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (WCCO) -- After several recent high-profile shootings of unarmed men by police across the country, many cities are re-evaluating how they interact with the communities they serve.

Sunday night, the city of Brooklyn Park hosted one of three forums to start the conversation between police in residents in Hennepin County. The goal is to seek public input and develop a plan on improving relations between law enforcement officials and different communities.

"Please remember we are citizens. Stop treating us like we are not citizens. Stop treating us like we are not human beings.  Answer our questions when we ask.  We have a right to ask, officer why did you stop me," Community Activist Spike Moss said.

Police chiefs from several metro cities, along with the Hennepin County Sheriff were at Sunday night's meeting to listen and respond to concerns. Two more forums will take place in Minneapolis and Richfield later this year.
