2 Lino Lakes Women Get DWIs In Same Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Two women got DWIs on the same morning for driving the same car.

It happened just after 6 a.m. in Lino Lakes late last month. The incident was captured on dash cam video, as police pulled over the car on the side of I-35 with both women inside.

Police said the women told them they got lost on their way home after a night of drinking.

You can hear the officer on the dash cam video asking, "You guys are changing seats?" with a woman replying, "Yes."

Police catch up with the white Pontiac Grand Am along I-35.

"Where you guys coming from today?" the officer asks.

A woman responds, "The gas station just down the road."

"Did anything happen at the gas station?" the officer asks.

"No, not that I'm aware of," responds a woman.

Police said what happened at the Holiday gas station around 6 a.m. in Lino Lakes is what triggered the chain of events.

An employee called 911 after seeing the car hit a pole and then strike the pumps.

In the video, Marley McKay, 20, stumbles during her field sobriety test. She admits to police she was driving at the gas station. Their report states she knew she hit something, but left. And she even tells the officer why they pulled over on the side of the interstate.

"They indicated they were switching spots, and the one individual stated they were too intoxicated to drive the vehicle," Lino Lakes Police Capt. Wayne Wegener said.

Newly 21, Megan Demaio was behind the wheel when police caught up with the car. Because both women could be placed in the driver's seat, police say both were cited with DWI.

"Extremely odd for a Saturday morning and very unusual for most any day," Wegener said.

Beyond being charged with DWI, hit-and-run and leaving the scene of an accident, one of the backseat passengers was also cited for stealing three boxes of donuts from the Corner Express in Lino Lakes.
