Zahui B. Named Finalist For Naismith Trophy

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota sophomore Amanda Zahui B. was named one of four finalists for the Naismith Trophy on Friday. The award goes to the top player in women's college basketball.

Zahui was one of the key pieces as the Gophers women's basketball team finished the season 23-9 overall after losing to DePaul in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the program's first appearance in the tournament since 2009.

She's the third Minnesota player ever to be a finalist for the award. Lindsay Whalen was a finalist in 2003 and 2004, and Janelle McCarville was a finalist in 2005.

She averaged 18.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game for the season. Zahui was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team, was a First Team All-Big Ten selection and was named the league's Player of the Year by the media.

The winner of the award will be announced on April 7.
