Man Convicted Of Officer Patrick's Murder Wants Money Seized In Arrest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The man convicted of killing a Mendota Heights police officer last summer wants his money back.

Attorneys for Brian Fitch Sr. have filed a motion in Dakota County. They're seeking the return of nearly $3,000 in cash that was taken from him at the time of his arrest. The money was found in his pants when he was taken into custody in St. Paul last July.

Fitch is serving a life sentence for fatally shooting Officer Scott Patrick in West St. Paul during a traffic stop. During the trial, Fitch's lawyers said he was a drug dealer who had been collecting money owed to him.

The lawyers said police did not file a timely notice of forfeiture for the cash.
