MOA's 'ItsMyMall' Promotion Backfires On Twitter

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Mall of America Twitter campaign asking people to share their stories about visiting the mall has backfired dramatically.

The mall's marketing vice president tweeted Tuesday evening about a new promotion :

But with the city of Bloomington bringing criminal charges against organizers of a December "Black Lives Matter" protest at the mall, the "ItsMyMall" hashtag seemed out of touch to many Twitter users.

Members of the Black Lives Matter group were active on social media.

The protest, on Dec. 20, 2014, brought thousands to the Mall of America. The mall went into a partial shutdown for about two hours as afternoon protesters filled the rotunda. Mall officials said they made it clear to the group that protests or demonstrations were not allowed on their property.
