WCCO Saturday Morning Links & Recap (March 28)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's the last Saturday in March... but will spring finally arrive? Either way, there's plenty going on around the Twin Cities: from the Beerwood Derby to poetry slams, here's everything you missed on the March 28 edition of WCCO Saturday morning.

Feeling nostalgic for your days as a boy scout? Good news: the Pinewood Derby isn't just for kids anymore. A local troop is hosting the Beerwood Derby for a fundraiser, and anyone can participate. All you'll need is a derby kit and a full bottle of beer.

Step right up! The St. Paul Osman Shrine Circus is at the Minnesota State Fair Coliseum this weekend, featuring some amazing aerial acts, clowns, jugglers and much more.

Looking to get your motor running this weekend? The 28th annual Donnie Smith Bike and Car Show is taking over the St. Paul RiverCentre on Saturday and Sunday. This year, the event will be featuring a full car show in addition to their custom crusisers and choppers.

It's that time of year when everyone is thinking about getting outdoors, just in time for the 83rd Northwest Sportshow this weekend. Head over to the Minneapolis Convention Center Saturday and Sunday to check out some RVs, ATVs, and fishing and hunting gear.

Saturday night is the finals of the Be Heard Minnesota Youth Poetry Slam. Six poets will be chosen at the Capri Theater in Minneapolis to represent the state in the international festival later this summer. Click here to buy tickets.

For this week's edition of DeRusha Eats, Jason heads to Joan's in the Park where the chefs cook using only pizza ovens... but there's no pizza on the menu. Check out their website to see what they have to offer.

The Twin Cities aren't quite the manufacturing hub they used to be, but Brad Wellman and Matt Brunnette of Minneapolis are hoping to change that. Their local company, Mill City Fineries, now sells neckties, pocket squares, and bowties which they hand-sew, sometimes in as little as 35 minutes! Check out their website to see some of their fine apparel and accessories.

Finally, we're proud to say that our own Jason DeRusha has been nominated for a James Beard award in Broadcast Media for DeRusha Eats! Click here for the full story. He'll find out if he won on April 24.
