DNR Extends Burning Restrictions In Northern Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — As the fire danger increases, authorities are extending spring burning restrictions to more north-central and northeastern Minnesota counties effective Wednesday.

Under these restrictions, open burning of brush or yard waste is prohibited in the affected counties. Much of the state has been under similar restrictions since last week.

The Department of Natural Resources says the spring burning restrictions coincide with increasing fire potential throughout much of the state due to the early snow melt and dry fuels like grass and leaves. With the snow gone, exposed dead grass and brush can light easily and fires can spread quickly.

Debris burning is especially dangerous during April and May when most wildfires occur in Minnesota.
