State Patrol: Woman, 86, Killed In Rice County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person was killed Saturday and another was hurt after a two-car crash in southern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities were called to the crash at about 5:38 p.m. on Highway 60 at Dalton Avenue in Faribault. When officers arrived, they learned a 16-year-old female was driving a 2005 Buick Century with an 86-year-old passenger southbound across Highway 60 to Dalton Avenue. A 31-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado eastbound on Highway 60 when the two vehicles collided.

The passenger in the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified by authorities as Ruth A. Burkhartzmeyer of Faribault. The 16-year-old driver suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was not hurt.

North Memorial ambulance and Morristown Fire and Rescue provided assistance at the scene.
