Coon Rapids Girl, 9, Getting Nat'l Attention For Tasty Pie Recipe
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota girl's unique pie recipe had judges salivating at a community pie contest this summer. Now the Coon Rapids girl is getting national attention for her Chocolate Coconut Chantilly Pie and she's only 9 years old.
We first got a taste of Natalie Berg's passion for pies at the town of Braham's Annual Pie Day. That was where the Girl Scout debuted a recipe inspired by her favorite cookie.
"I like Samoas and I wanted to bake a pie," Natalie said.
Natalie's mom says her pie was so good even she couldn't compete!
"She actually beat me on my scores at Pie Day," Michele Berg said. "I'm a proud mom."
So, they entered Natalie's pie recipe in the Taste of Home/Girl Scout USA recipe contest and just learned they're national finalists.
"People love it, they absolutely love it," Michele said.
So what's the recipe? Well, it's top secret until the contest is over. However, Natalie tells us it involves chocolate pudding, whip cream, and of course Samoas.
If Natalie wins, her recipe will be featured in the Taste of Home Magazine. She'll also be flown to New York and will receive $500.
But they need people to vote for her. You can vote for her recipe once every 24 hours until the April 14 deadline.
