Budget Bill Removes Disclosure For Bringing Guns To Capitol

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesotans with gun permits could carry a gun onto state Capitol grounds without tipping off the state under a House budget bill.

Current state law requires gun owners to notify state officials before bringing a gun into the Capitol and other state buildings. But a provision in a public safety budget bill released Monday would remove that requirement. Getting a permit-to-carry would suffice.

A House committee unanimously passed that proposal earlier this year. Proponents argued the current system is useless because the state doesn't require notification for each visit. It's good for life.

It's one of several changes gun rights advocates are pursuing this year. They're also pushing to legalize firearm silencers and make it easier to buy guns in other states.
