Dry Conditions Spark Wildfires Across Northern, Eastern Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Although the streak of warm, dry days has come to an end with small thunderstorms Saturday night and Sunday morning, two grass fires burned through northern and eastern Minnesota Saturday afternoon.

First, a car sparked a grass fire in Chisago County in those dry conditions. The fire department says the car was whipping donuts in the field when it caught fire. When two different departments arrived on the scene, they found the car engulfed in flames as a blaze ripped through some nearby grasslands. Police say there was no damage to adjacent buildings, nor were there any injuries.

A fast-moving grass fire destroyed a house and some outbuildings in Chisholm. The St. Louis Sheriff's Office says it appears this fire may have started by an outdoor wood stove. The State Fire Marshall and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are investigating.
